Szepsy Szent Tamás Furmint 2016

24.900 Ft

Vintage: 2016 was a moderate, averagely warm vintage. The cool spring and hot pre-summer dotted with storms was followed by a long maturing period with rainy and dry periods alternating. Multi-layered wines with distinct acid structure were created with good aromas, slight peach and pollen finish that characterise the freshness and complexity.

Vineyard: The Szent Tamás vineyard is located in the eastern part of Mád, where the Szepsy family cultivates about 11 hectares of slopes at altitudes of 140-230 metres above sea level. The vineyard has old vines, traditional goblet training and incredibly varied soil layers. The soil here is strikingly layered (red clay, weathered zeolite, hard rhyolite, tuff) due to post-volcanic activity and this gives top wines from this vineyard the unparalleled mineral, complex and endless length along with several decades of potential.

Winemaking: The selective harvest happened in several phases on 16, 20 and 21 September. The wine fermented spontaneously in second-fill Zemplén oak barrel and stayed in the barrel for eight months before bottling in mid-July 2017.
