Szepsy Aszú 2009

Refreshing síp of apricot. Extremely serious acid structure.

Vintage: Harmonious, warm year that brought early ripening but a lower quantity of aszú berries than expected. The vintage gave Mediterranean-style wines, softer with refined acidity but extremely complex, concentrated Aszú with balance and great aging potential. This aromatic wine is full, bursting with complex flavours in which apricot, sultana, peach and pear flavours dominate. Medium acidity, soft, smooth, but the balance remains impeccable. Medium-long and refined flavours, the overall impression is similar to the soft, rounded Aszú wines of 2000, 2006 and 2007.

Winemaking: Selection of the aszú grapes, which happened throughout the Szepsy estate and in several stages, began in the first half of November with the selection of 70% Furmint, 20% Hárslevelű and 10% Sárgamuskotály aszú berries. They were macerated in still-fermenting base wine of overripe Furmint harvested mainly from old vines in December. After three days maceration and then pressing, the wine spent six years in 300-l Zemplén oak barrels until it was bottled in June 2015.
