Szepsy Úrágya Furmint 2017

16.900 Ft

Vintage: After the coldest winter in recent years bud break was relatively early, and on 30 May 2017 the vines burst into flower. Thanks to the combination of plenty of sunshine, cold nights and cool dawns, and appropriate precipitation at the right time, in all respects this vintage has given us classic outstanding wines, concentrated, elegant and lively with beautiful aromas and marked acidity.

Vineyard: Úrágya Vineyard lies to the east of Mád. Around 70 hectares in total, Szepsy Winery cultivates 5.3 hectares on SE-S-SW slopes with a gradient of around 15% around 200-235 metres above sea level. The vines planted between 1964 and 1982 are 80% Furmint, 20% Hárslevelű. The soil here was created by post-volcanic activity and has sticky red clay with quartz rhyolite tuff with thin layers of tiny pebbles. The accumulation of extremely complex mineral material gives a unique defined minerality, the completely unmistakable “Úrágya character”.

Winemaking: The wine is from the 1.24-hectare parcel 3663 from which Szepsy Winery makes dry wine every year. The grapes were harvested on 29-30 September. After yeast was added it fermented in stainless steel before aging for 7 months in a new 300-l barrel. It was bottled on 8 May 2018.
