Szepsy Aszú 2013
Serious, great Aszú wine with beautiful acidity makes the taster travel.
Vintage: 2013 started with a long cold winter and late snows which slowed the flowering. The hot, dry summer was followed by a cool and rainy autumn. These constraining factors all contributed to an extremely balanced vintage that gave concentrated wines with lively acidity, excellent balance and good aging potential. The aszú harvest lasted from mid-October to the end of November and Szepsy Winery managed to harvest enough outstanding quality aszú berries. The vintage’s sweet wines are elegantly fruity and dynamic with clean flavours.
Winemaking: The 2013 Szepsy Aszú is made of 70% Furmint, 20% Hárslevelű and 10% Sárgamuskotály. The aszú berries, which were selected from throughout the estate, primarily from old vines, from mid-October to the end of November, were macerated in still-fermenting base wine of overripe Furmint harvested mainly from old vines in December. After three days maceration and then pressing, the wine spent two and a half years in 300-l Zemplén oak barrels until it was bottled in April 2016.
