Szepsy Eszencia 2007

Decanter magazine taster Stephen Brook awarded it an outstanding 99/100 points. Internationally renowned wine critic Jancis Robinson gave Szepsy’s 2007 Eszencia 18/20.

Eszencia is one of the most outstanding and rarest dessert wines ever to have been created – in the world. The taste and structure are truly unique; the alcohol minimal due to the incredible sugar content. The nectar drips from the collected aszú berries stored in a container, simply by its own weight. The wine was then aged for 9 years in Hungarian oak before bottling. This ethereal wine is complex in an unusual way. It hypnotises our taste senses. Can only be made in micro quantities.

Vintage: The extremely hot summer of 2007 gave us complex and elegant wines with high sugar content. The vintage was propitious for the development of Botrytis so perfectly ripe aszú berries were selected by hand in November, and Szepsy Winery was able to make Eszencia for the first time after many years. This world-classic nectar spent nine years in oak barrel before bottling in February 2015.
