SZEPSY SZENT TAMÁS and BETSEK PARCEL-SELECTED ASZÚS 2017
“We believe that we have made our best ever wines. The question that interests us more is how good Hungarian wines are and how valuable our terroirs are compared to the “greats” of the world. These two lots are Szepsy Winery’s answer. The mission of these two wines is no less than to place Tokaj in a new dimension at the international level, something not one winery has successfully achieved in Hungarian history.” (István Szepsy Jr.)
Szepsy was among the first to recognise that, in order to raise the renown of Hungarian wine worldwide, a concept and vision different from those to date was needed. Finally, after 25 years of development, variety and vineyard selection, in the 2017 harvest the perfect moment happened to make the masterpieces of his career – vineyard-selected top Aszú wines that elevate the year 2020 to an outstanding year in the history of wine.
Szepsy Winery carefully selected two unique Aszú wines made from Furmint grapes harvested in just one parcel in two Mád vineyards, both First Growth, to present to knowledgeable wine lovers. Both reveal the typical features of the 2017 vintage along with the knowledge and experience of the last thirty years. Passionately but comprehensively.
Szepsy followed Aszú-making traditions that stretch back over 500 years during the creation of the wines. Both lots were fermented in two 250-l new barrels of 100% Zemplén oak. The base wine was poured onto the aszú berries during the period of intensive alcoholic fermentation. The maceration (soaking) of the aszú berries lasted for two days before pressing the berries in a traditional manual press. The wines were bottled in spring 2020.
A very limited quantity of these two luxury wines exists, less than 1000 bottles of each.
To mark the occasion of the introduction of these two top wines, we will offer a 20% discount until 31 December 2020.
